In this 4 week flexible schedule class we will learn about 4 different artists (Paul Gauguin, Edward Hopper, Max Liebermann, and Anna Archer) and create art pieces that are inspired by their work. We will talk about their genre of art, create pieces to be proud of, and learn about the artists through games and additional information Learners will post pictures and/or video of their work (and their works in progress) on the classroom page so that fellow learners and the teacher can give feedback and encouragement on their pieces. It will be uplifting and helpful to the students and peer feedback will be fun! Students will also engage with each other with interactive online games, scavenger hunts, fun trivia and games about the artists we will be talking about each week! Here are the highlights for each week! Week 1 - Paul Gauguin - We will discuss his life and his friendship and the influence fellow artist Vincent Van Gogh had on his art. We will talk about his art that was highly influenced by his time in the Tahiti. We will discuss his piece called Tahitian landscape and students will then create their own masterpiece using crayon and watercolor based on is painting. We will talk about color, composition, creativity, and also the proper use of materials and clean up. The students will be able to create their piece based on Tahitian Landscape, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. They will post pictures of their work on the classroom page so that we can give feedback and encouragement to each learner. Week 2 - Edward Hopper - We will talk about his life as an American artist and some of his most famous works. We will discuss his lack of wanting to be classified with his art and wasn't outspoken about his work. He is an intriguing artist that left his mark in the American artist landscape. We will recreate his work called Pemaquid Light ,and look at his use of light in this beautiful watercolor painting. We will have some fun facts and online game interaction during the week. Week 3 - Max Liebermann - We will have fun exploring the artist Max Liebermann. We will be looking at his painting called The Birch Alley In Wannseegarten To the West. We will re-create his beautiful artwork using crayon and watercolor and students will have fun adding their own creativity to their piece. We will play a few interactive games that are Lieberman or Impressionists themed as well as interaction with their art pieces with each other and the teacher. Week 4 - Anna Ancher - During this week we will look at the female artist Anna Ancher. She is a lesser known artist to most of us but her work is beautiful. She is a Danish artist who painted simple themes with beautiful light and colors. We will re-create her piece called Østerbyvej in Skagen-Østerby using watercolor and crayon. We will do some puzzles related to this artist and the era. The classes will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their piece and be proud of what they create. The videos will be clear and provide at least 2 angles. No experience is needed, but some parental help could be needed with the painting parts if the student is younger. Please look at the supplies list for everything needed for these lessons!

I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
