Students will learn about the evolution of sharks. The topics covered will be as follows: 1: The Chimera-Shark split 2: Paleozoic sharks (Ordovician-Permian) 3: Mesozoic sharks (Triassic-Cretaceous) 4: Cenozoic sharks (Paleocene-Pleistocene) My class will be structured along the shark family tree chronologically. We will start with the earliest sharks and talk about the new branches that show up at different points. I will teach using a mixture of clips, videos, artworks and discussion and...
Students will learn the abridged version of the 450 millon year journey of the shark family
I studied paleontology, and more important to this class, Marine Mesozoology at the University of Alberta. I have worked as an educator at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and have been on several fossil digs.
