課堂經歷
As a language is so heavily informed by that country's culture, the goal of this class is to provide cultural context that is both interesting and helpful to students developing a better understanding of Japanese. Being able to read/write Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji characters is not required but an understanding of at least a basic level of Japanese grammar and/or vocabulary is recommended in order to get the most out of this class. As the theme of this 8-week course is school life in Japan,...
Upon completing this class, students will have: - Learned more about school life in Japan, what it is like to be a Japanese middle school (or high school) student. - Learned vocabulary related to Japanese education/school life, and its meaning. - Practiced listening and speaking of Japanese in situational conversations (asking for help, talking about hobbies/interests, etc.). - Practiced expressing their opinions in Japanese, how to suggest something and why, presenting their chosen club or festival activity "flyer."
I have studied Japanese for more than 12 years and am fluent in the language. I also am experienced in tutoring middle school, high school, as well as college students in Japanese and I have lived accumulatively in Japan for about 5 years. In terms of knowledge of Japanese school life, upon graduating from college, I went to work in Japan where I co-taught and led English classes to students at a Japanese senior high school as well as a special needs school in Japan as part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program for 2 years.
All audiovisual material for class (sound/video/image) will be provided as part of PowerPoint presentations (or similar) displayed for students through use of screen share on Zoom. Students may want to have a notebook and pen/pencil to take notes in class. All "follow-up worksheets" and class supporting materials (i.e. vocabulary lists) will be provided to students by the teacher in the Classroom. For their final project, students will be provide a "poster" or "flyer" to show to the class while they present. This can be drawn, made digitally on the computer using pictures found on the internet, etc. however the supplies needed to complete the "poster/flyer" part of this final project will vary accordingly.
