I don't assign grades. If the games the students make bring happiness to others, then I am happy for them.

課堂經歷

The classes I teach are geared towards giving students the road map to solving the coding problems put in front of them. I help students learn through a series of challenges how to use the layout of the program.

Advanced students will have challenges as well, but mostly gearing towards taking on the same challenge with more logic problems involved.

Week of Mar 4 - Challenge 1.
Students will learn about changing backdrops, adding and naming sprites and learning how to move sprites around the screen.

Week of Mar 11 - Challenge 2.
Students will learn about how to make create their own variables and how these can be changed to add scores and timers to their game. The challenge will then be for the students to add both of these to their games with guidance if needed.

Week of Mar 18 - Challenge 3
Students will learn about if conditions and how they can influence their scenes. Then they will be challenged to figure out how to make certain things happen with them.

Week of Mar 25th - Challenge 4
Students will learn about loops and how loops do so much of the work for you. then they will be challenged to add them to their games.

Week of Apr 4 - Challenge 5
Students will learn about nested loops (a loop within a loop) and how these work. Sound easy? It isn't when you're learning how they work for the first time.

學習目標

Students are encouraged to practice and to regularly share their games with others.

父母的引導和規範
Students may create free accounts on Scratches website. This may involve them creating their own personal username. These usernames are considered private information, so I do not recommend sharing usernames to anyone on call. However, be I may ask for it before class begins, to help view a students work during the class.

After graduating University, I worked overseas in China for a year as an ESL teacher. Upon returning, I moved into the Banking Industry and worked for almost a decade. I decided that that industry no longer appealed to me, so I transitioned fully into the video game industry. I have since taught classes in Scratch, Minecraft and Roblox and assisted over 100 students through my current employer. Joining Outschool is my attempt at doing something I enjoy, while working more independently.

My goal here is to teach your young minds what I have learned, so if you too decide to enter the multi-billion-dollar industry of video games, you will be better prepared. Any homework that I give out is designed to a challenge, more than a requirement. There is no right or wrong, only the attempt and effort are appreciated. I’m always available for questions and I try to give a response within 12 hours of seeing the message.

I’ll be honest with you; programming is difficult and intimidating regardless of if you see it for the first time or your one-hundredth time. It is a challenge that gives you never-ending puzzles as you try to build on what you have.

I am of the mindset that if somebody orders a dozen of something, I give them thirteen. If they do not like what I am able to provide, I will always give a refund for the last class taught.

When I’m not building games, I love competing at e-sports. I’ve travelled to compete at Dreamhack and numerous other local tournaments. I captained my school’s collegiate Hearthstone and Overwatch teams and I’m currently training several players to become competitive at Street Fighter 5. If e-sports is your thing, and demand it high enough, I’ll see if I develop a few classes on it in the future.
