Historically, in many parts of the world and in some societies, women have been viewed as meek and too emotional to lead armies more less run organized civilizations and Kingdoms. When we speak about the Great Queens of Africa, historical records indicate that these strong women, who rose to power and greater heights than many male leaders could have ever dreamed of, were great warriors and rulers of armies & kingdoms across the continent of Ancient Africa. In this module, we will examine & explore 5 of the most influential Ancient African Queens: Week One: Amina -The Queen of Zaria, Nigeria (15th Century) Week Two: Candace- The empress of Ethiopia (332 BC) Week Three: Makeda-The Queen of Sheba (960 BC) Week Four: Nefertiti- Queen of Ancient Kemet (1292 BC to 1225 BC) Week Five: Yaa Asantewa -Ashanti kingdom, Ghana Week Six: Final Presentations -scholars will create Queendoms and present them for finals. The presentations can be completed using Sebastian modalities. In other words, video, creating from materials, cardboard, foam, etc. A list of materials are needed are listed below. This is an interactive class where scholars are engaged in dialogue about subject matter, virtual field trips, content relevant games and assessments for improving scholars progress and facilitate scholars ownership of learning, in addition to improving my teaching practices.

Google classrooms are utilized with this course. A code to join the class will be provided upon enrollment. This classroom will be actively used during the course to provide assignments and materials and you may enter with an email invite or a classroom code.
Grades are issued only as a way to gage learning, for all assignments and quizzes.

Most of the materials used in this course are provided by me, in other words, readings, videos, etc. However, we do projects that I have designed that require minimal materials and that you may already have around your home. Examples: Pencils, Paper, Graphic organizers, cardboard, makers, glue, pipe cleaners, poster boards, etc. *A Syllabus will be provided upon registration*
