課堂經歷

Intermediate 等級
This class is a single, self-paced lesson designed to help students build their skills in analyzing literature. We will explore the concept of theme, discussing how to identify theme in two parts and why theme is such an important element of writing. This class is formatted as a lecture with a guided activity, accompanied by a mastery worksheet for students to practice the skills on their own. Students will submit this worksheet to me for review to ensure full understanding of the concepts. We will explore topics through a mix of examples students are likely familiar with, including full length novels/dramas, short stories, and poems. Although the class is an asynchronous, independent experience, I am always happy to discuss questions, provide feedback, and offer other teacher-to-student support so that all learners can enjoy and succeed in this course.
學習目標
Students will be able to identify thematic topics and thematic messages in literary texts.
Students will be able to construct thematic statements which address both topic and message, demonstrating their nuanced understanding of theme as a whole.

教師專業知識和證書
I trained for 3.5 years as an English secondary education teacher before switching from a classroom-focused career path to the online teaching space. Now, I put the skills I gained in the classroom environment to use in creating lessons like this one.
As a lover of both writing and analyzing literature, this lesson's topic is near and dear to my heart. It has always been one of my favorite 'tricks' to teach students to help them bring their own creative writing and analysis to the next level, whether as part of a structured unit or in discussion during a tutoring session.
