課堂經歷

In this after-school drama club format, students will learn the tools of the trade from an experienced theater artist. The class will discuss hot topics and current events in the theater industry, host workshops targeting important skills for the aspiring thespian, and allow performance opportunities for students who would like to share. The class will be driven by students with structured input and activities by the instructor.

Week of September 3: What is Theater?
In the first week of the drama club, students will learn about the experience of attending a live play and defining theater as an art. They will discuss the different elements that make up a play, such as the set, costumes, lighting, and sound design. Students will also learn about the importance of audience etiquette and how to properly engage with a live performance. As part of the lesson, students will watch a recorded performance of a Broadway show and discuss their favorite elements of the production.

Week of September 10: Acting the Song
In the second week of the drama club, students will focus on the art of singing in musical theater. They will learn about the importance of acting through song and how to convey a character's emotions and motivations through their singing. Students will have the opportunity to practice singing a song from a musical and receive feedback from the instructor and their peers.

Week of September 17: Playwrighting
In the third week of the drama club, students will explore the art of playwriting. They will learn about the different elements that make up a play, such as plot, character, setting, and dialogue. Students will have the opportunity to write their own short play and receive feedback from the instructor and their peers.

Week of September 24: Improvisation
In the fourth week of the drama club, students will focus on the skill of improvisation. They will learn about the importance of spontaneity and collaboration in theater, and will have the opportunity to practice improvisational exercises and games. Through these activities, students will develop their ability to think on their feet and create dynamic performances in the moment.

Week of October 1: Auditioning
In the fifth week of the drama club, students will learn about the process of auditioning for a play or musical. They will discuss the importance of preparation and confidence, and will have the opportunity to practice audition monologues and receive feedback from the instructor.

Week of October 8: The Business of Theater
In the sixth week of the drama club, students will learn about the business side of theater. They will discuss the different roles and careers in the theater industry, such as actors, directors, producers, and stage managers. Students will also learn about the importance of networking and how to market themselves as aspiring theater professionals.

Week of October 15: Theater History
In the seventh week of the drama club, students will explore the history of theater. They will learn about the origins of theater and the evolution of different styles and genres, such as ancient Greek tragedy, Shakespearean drama, and modern musicals. Through discussions and activities, students will develop a deeper appreciation for the rich history of theater.

ASPACIA LINDSTROM:
My professional career has been enriched by studying contemporary and modern dance. In college, I was a member of the state theatre forensics team. This diverse experience provided the basis of my teaching style, which combines stage acting, improvisation, and original composition competition. Having developed successful afterschool programs in Polk, Lake, and Osceola counties for more than a decade, I am passionate about preserving the arts in schools. In Clermont, FL, I led the theater department at Astatula Elementary School, as well as, Florida Jr and Florida Thespians, theatre, and musical theatre at East Ridge Middle School. In addition to serving as Co-Chair for District 9 Junior Thespians, I founded Shut The Door Productions, LLC, which provides two-week summer drama camps in Florida. My passion for theatre and dance led me to graduate from the University of Houston with my MA in Theatre and Dance. I am looking forward to joining the Ferrell Studios family.
