This is an interactive full-curriculum course! I am not a traditional teacher. In my classes, I don’t lecture; instead, students will explore mathematics using complex problems, analyze patterns, and develop their knowledge. This format may be different and challenging if students are more familiar with a traditional style. However, students who persevere will have a deep understanding of mathematics. Daily homework will be given; however, students can complete it at the end of the week or after each day. The homework timeline is up to the individual family. Students who complete the homework and turn it in the teacher-learner message system will receive personalized feedback. At the end of every unit, a progress report will be emailed to parents/guardians. This progress report will be based on in-class participation. A transcript detailing strengths and weaknesses will be provided at the end of every semester. Students will explore math in a discovery and hands-on manner during class using virtual manipulatives, items around the house, or inquiry-based tasks. Students will be expected to share their ideas and thoughts with their peers. For the best class experience, students should come to class with cameras on and in a quiet location. Each week is self-contained, which allows learners to enroll at any time. Students who register for both the fall and spring semesters will have completed an entire 5th-grade curriculum (aligned with U.S. national standards) My lessons are self-created using curated materials from various research-based methodologies on best practices for teaching mathematics. I am a non traditional teacher, no lectures here!
Instead my classes focus on being:
*Student Centered- they lead the pace
*Critical Thinking -complex tasks are given that may be a bit unusual but will cause students to think deeply
*Problem Solving- word problems to keep concepts in context
*Focus on discovering patterns- patterns is the basis of the study of algebra and higher levels of math thinking
*Students create their understanding versus being told what to think
I am constantly learning how to become a better math teacher! I have a Master's degree in Math Education but I don't believe that means I know everything. In fact I am constantly reading about the brain, and the best ways to teach math. I also am constantly evaluating my classes and content and making changes based on how learners interact with the material.
I have 13 years of experience in Education, and have taught math at all levels including adults.

In my down time, I love hanging with my husband, and two girls. We love to read books, play games and do math together (of course:)
