Summer Camp - Minecraft Game Design

 On Monday everyone will start by creating a new game with the provided Minecraft world. This world comes with beautiful castles, towns, villages, huge buildings, and everything you need to rapidly create your game world.

I'll teach everyone how to use Minecraft World Edit and setup their world for the kind of story and game they want to make.

Then we'll create storyboards and learn how to make NPCs the player can talk to to progress their story. 

 On Tuesday we'll learn about the hero's journey. Once everyone decides what their hero's "call to action" will be, we'll create our First Quest.

The first quest will introduce the player to your game world and the people living in it. Then "something" will happen that calls your hero into action, and starts your story.

Everyone will also create their hero's first special ability or magic power. This can be a special sword that gives powers, or magic inherent to the hero, anything you want! 

 On Wednesday we'll start filling your world with the enemies your hero will have to battle. Everyone will learn how to create incredibly interesting enemies, such as 40 foot tall zombies, or a skeleton, riding a skeleton, that's riding another skeleton!

Then we'll create a leveling system that lets our hero level up, either by completing quests or defeating enemies. As your hero levels up you can increase their health, unlock new abilities, or anything else you can think of. 

 On Thursday everyone will create a multi phase boss battle!

For example:
Phase 1 - Your boss ignores you and sends minions to defeat you, but when you defeat them all Phase 2 begins. 
Phase 2 - Your boss battles you until they are almost defeated, and then they TRANSFORM to start phase 3.
Phase 3 - You battle your boss' final form!

We'll also learn how to create cutscenes in Minecraft and use them at the start of our boss battle, and when our boss transforms for a really awesome boss battle!
