I know that reading and writing development can be challenging. Therefore, I've built a class that helps students excel in these domains. Whether you're looking for assistance with homework or enrichment, my private English tutorials will help your student improve their performance, not only in the classroom, but on external metrics, like the SAT and statewide testing. During our tutorials, we will determine what level your learner is reading and writing at, and then have the  option to take additional 1:1 private English classes. Specifically, I am available to tutor, English Language Arts and Reading, English as an Additional Language, IB Language B, and AP Literature. Students who wish to have tutorials for AP Language and Composition, IB Language A: Literature or Language A: Language and Literature, will need to message me first to explain the specifics of what they need help with to ensure that I can accommodate them. 

Reading Assessment:  During our first session students will be assessed on their reading level by reading through a text to check what they notice, what questions they ask, and how they answer specific targeted follow up questions. 

Writing Assessment: Our first session will also include a writing prompt that is fun, creative and engaging, while also being level appropriate and challenging. In this way, I will be able to gauge their writing ability and provide parents with feedback to aid in how your family decides to move forward with their student. 

After the initial assessment you are invited to book future lessons to support your child's reading and writing growth. Some topics that we may cover are, general and advanced vocabulary, grammar and syntax, academic writing, and critical thinking. We will discuss these items within the contexts of written texts covering various themes and writing styles. We might consider the human condition, bildungsroman or coming of age stories, love and relationships, and the nature of conflict. 

Having obtained an M.A. in English literature and teaching certificates in ESL, ELA, IB Language B and AP English, I have honed my teaching style to be supportive, caring, inclusive, and empowering.

My lessons are flexible, and should you need additional support, I can accommodate your child as our lessons are tailored to meet the specific needs of each child.
