**READ PHASE: (approximately 10 lesson hours to achieve mastery)
Children having mastered prior phases are well ready to begin independent reading. Strive to foster encouragement and limit "in-moment" correction. In this phase, prior knowledge is reviewed and reinforced while sentence building begins. Stronger reading comprehension skills develop through word association activities and basic storybook concept mapping. Again, correct books that reinforce learned material and are appropriate contribute greatly to success.

Lesson Week 1: Reading assessment and learning plan, story book reading, grammar activities (reading assessment and learning plan will be sent within 24 hours after the class)

Lesson Week 2: Read a (age-appropriate) book, analyze meaning and develop reading comprehension, identify parts of a story (character, plot, structure), 3x short story speed read challenge

Lesson Week 3: Proper writing and sentence building practice, Read a (age-appropriate) book and answer related comprehension questions, 3x short story speed read challenge

Lesson Week 4: Word association activities, basic storybook concept mapping, 3x short story speed read challenge

Lesson Week 5: Read a poem through speed increasing exercises, analyze meaning and develop reading comprehension through using a storybook concept map (midterm reading assessment and learning plan will be sent within 24 hours after the class)

Lesson Week 6: Read a (age-appropriate) book through speed increasing exercise, analyze meaning and develop reading comprehension 

Lesson Week 7: Develop short story, grammar practice, reading practice

Lesson Week 8: Continue work on short story, grammar practice, reading practice

Lesson Week 9: Finish work on short story, grammar practice, 3 passage reading practice

Lesson Week 10: Present short story, summarize and explain the plot structure,
increasing reading speed through 50 speed-word reading activity which is the end of term reading assessment and learning plan will be sent within 24 hours after the class).

A certificate of completion will be awarded upon successfully reaching the phase learning goals, reading at least 40 of the 50 words in class 10 without needing to go back, and completing all 10 lessons
