Reading is always better when there are others! In this social, fun, ESL English reading club, we will build reading and speaking skills together. I use social interaction and high-interest text to practice comprehension strategies necessary for reading success. This is a low-stress reading club. We read. We talk. We laugh. We make friends. Direct explanation I explain to students why the strategy helps comprehension and when to apply the strategy. 2. Modeling I model, or demonstrate how to apply the strategy, usually by “thinking aloud” while reading the text that the students are using. 3. Guided practice I guide and assist students as they learn how and when to apply the strategy. 4. Application Students practice the strategy until they can apply it independently.
