We then examine pictures of futuristic designs of space stations in films and games and look at the amenities necessary for astronauts to spend a long time in space. Benefits of map making are: - Topographical skills: Children are able to use directional labels such as north, south, east, and west - Projective skills: Children are able to use their own position to determine a location and its relationship to other elements - Euclidian skills: Children can accurately perceive spatial relationships such as those that are used on a paper map
I am a qualified schoolteacher and have taken many school classes to explore geographical sites around London and then map them. I am also a trained artist and storyteller and bring geography and cultural studies alive through images and narratives. I have worked as a graphic web designer and taught visual communication to teenagers. Through the activity of making maps we will be activating the imagination and learning how to present ideas and solutions graphically.
Bring your favourite art supplies and a large sheet of paper to draw on! Specifics: Paper: A3 is ideal (you can stick 2 A4 sheets together) Pencil and erasure. Colouring pencils or markers. A ruler and optional protractor.
