I will be teaching, reviewing, and practicing the lattice strategy for multiplying a multi-digit number by a  multi-digit number.  Please note that this is just one strategy for multiplication, and this is not the standard algorithm for multiplying multi-digit numbers.  Students need to come to class with a basic understanding of their multiplication facts.  

This class will be structured with a brief warm-up with multiplication facts. Then we will learn the lattice strategy using a 2-digit factor by a 2-digit factor.  After a few practice problems, we will move on to practice the lattice strategy multiplying a 3-digit factor by a 2-digit factor.  Finally, as the class continues to progress, we will move to 3-digit factors multiplied by 3-digit factors.  

Throughout class, students will be hearing and using math vocabulary: factor, product, sum, multi-digit, multiplication, lattice, strategy.

To end class, students will reflect on their learning.  Students will rate their understanding of the lattice strategy to multiply multi-digit numbers.
