주당 2-4시간. Homework is for YOUR benefit. Study the vocabulary. Make your noun/adjective/verb charts. Practice translations. I provide all the materials you need to work in your dedicated Latin notebook. For every hour of Latin class, you should be studying for - at the very least - two hours.

수업 소개

Previous knowledge required: A working knowledge of English parts of speech and how it relates to Latin cases; 1st/2nd/3rd noun/adjective declensions and cases; 1st/2nd /3rd and Esse/Posse verb conjugations in the past, future, and imperfect tenses; rudimentary vocabulary including common conjunctions and prepositions; demonstrative pronouns (hic/ille/iste and idem) and personal pronouns (ego/nos, etc). If this is your first class with me, I will send you a vocabulary list prior to class starting so you can refer to it as we work. 

Bring your handouts/notebook to class!!

Today we are learning a variation of the 3rd conjugation verb (1PS ending in -io) and the 4th conjugation verb in the present/future/imperfect active indicative tenses. We are learning the imperative tense. Today is huge, though. We will look at ALL FOUR conjugations side-by-side in the present/future/imperfect tenses to give you a bird's eye view of the repeating patterns. We will also review vocabulary and practice using our growing and improving Latin syntax! 

This is a very interactive class. We do repetition, drills, and sight reading. We discuss Roman culture, linguistics, and how Latin still affects many modern languages. Education is a conversation, and your voice is valued. Please feel free to share ideas, comments, and ask questions!

No 3rd party accounts are necessary. We do use the free online resource (Latin Wiktionary) as our dictionary and case-checker!

학습 목표

Students will begin to put the verb ending patterns together in their minds. Things will be making sense now and becoming clearer. More than that, translations are becoming easier because they are learning to parse out the words and sentences to create beautiful Latin syntax.

If this is your first time in my class, I will send you a vocabulary handout prior to class. Bring it. If you have taken other Latin classes with me, bring the vocabulary handouts and your dedicated notebook to class! You will need to refer to it. 

Students need a dedicated Latin notebook for making and studying their vocabulary and noun, adjective, and verb charts. This tool is key to learning and remembering word endings and the meanings of the root words. 

After class, I will send via Outschool message a copy of the slide show as well as a vocabulary list and translation practice. I can send it in either Office format (docx or pptx), Apple format (keynote/pages), or as Google links (docs/slides). Let me know your preference.

I draw from Wheelock 7th edition text, Cambridge Book 1, Minimus Book 1, Latin for Beginners, and my own studies. We use Latin Wiktionary as a free online source (dictionary).

I have a bachelors and masters degree in foreign language and history. I have taught and/or tutored this class at various levels and for various ages (middle school to university). I have traveled to and researched in the places I teach about, and I often include realia and cultural information to make the language come alive for the student.
