Students will finish this course with the grammatical knowledge to enter intermediate Latin courses. They will be well-versed in parsing words and sentences, sight reading, intuitive translating. They will have experienced Roman history, mythology, and culture. They will have an excellent grasp on grammar that will translate to a variety of languages (primarily English, Greek, German, Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese). Latin Camps 1 - 4 prepare the student and give them the tools to be able to take the AP Latin Examination, and be reading for college-level Latin. 

I have a bachelors and masters degree in foreign language and history. I have taught and/or tutored this class at various levels and for various ages (middle school to university). I have traveled to and researched in the places I teach about, and I often include realia and cultural information to make the language come alive for the student. Nothing pleases me more than seeing students fall in love with the Latin language!

Homework is assigned. Homework is practice for the student and helps them retain the material they are learning. Students who do their homework often prove to progress easier in the Latin courses than those who don't. I don't get fussy about the homework, though. I am extremely aware that many of my students have an excess of schoolwork and may not have the time to devote to it. Because of this, I always go over any assignments in the following class, if necessary. 

One thing that is imperative for them to do is to keep a Latin notebook (paper or digital, whatever they prefer). They will need it to write declension and conjugation charts, as well as vocabulary words. They will need it to practice parsing words and sentences.

I draw from Wheelock 7th edition text, Lingua Latina Pars 1 & 2, A Latin Grammar, 38 Latin Stories Designed to Accompany Wheelock, Cambridge Book 1 & 2, Oxford Course 1, Minimus Book 1 & 2, Latin for Beginners, (among others) and my own studies. We use Latin Wiktionary & LIS as free online sources (dictionaries). We use my own personal pictures/videos and a YouTube video (edited for age appropriateness) for our Roman culture classes. They have no ratings as both are for educational purposes. No external account is necessary for the student.
