수업 소개
This is a on-going social club for young rail-fans to show & tell related to railroad photography/videography, model railroading, books/movies/tv, and practice having other railroad themed conversations. Bring your pictures & videos of locomotives, cars, track, stations, crew, parts & equipment, model railroads, even graffiti and hobo tagging - whatever your particular interest is welcome so long as it is railroad related. We also welcome railroad themed art projects and student sharing of their Roblox and Minecraft layouts, as well as other virtual railroading games! This club is based on student interest, so we may also include ideas for hands on projects, have a special theme, virtual field trips, share railroad facts, and discuss the preservation and restoration of railroading history... but each week will stand on it's own and new students may join the club at any point. No fancy equipment or special skills required... From Thomas to high-speed transit, If you like trains and want to talk and learn about them you are welcome! Beginners to experienced rail-fans are welcome - we can all learn from each other and offer encouragement

In this weekly club students will have the opportunity to share their skills (photography, art, etc.) and knowledge of trains and railroading... while making new friends who share a common interest!
Heather will facilitate positive discussions and guide socialization skills towards inclusion and kindness.
There will be weekly reminders of railroad safety and curtesy while railfanning.

For your first week in class, please bring a picture of your favorite locomotive or other railroad equipment (you don't have to be the one who took it) so we can see it and get to know each other better! Every week students should bring their excitement about trains! Depending on the number of students enrolled, each is given 5 minutes or more to share pictures, video, and talk to the others about whatever train related thing they'd like to share! Lerners are welcome to screen-share and show us pictures and short video clips (theirs or found elsewhere and credited.) I do ask that parents preview any videos to be shared for what may be considered inappropriate language before class.

Prior to the pandemic, I was the camp director for a railroad summer camp. I spent 11 years working for a historic railroad offering tours, shop experiences, and planning special events and educational programs to help young railfans grow in skills related to their interest in trains... from hands-on experience restoring these amazing machines, to small scale models, as well as the history of the people who's lives were shaped by the railroad industry.
I also have many years of experience working to create a railfanning space that is safe and inclusive for neurodiverse young people (Autism, ADHD, and various other learning/processing differences.) I enjoy helping all my students share their interests and learn group social skills (like taking turns listening and sharing, and finding a way to engage with other people's interests that differ from our own) and endeavor to foster a safe space where everyone has the opportunity to share, be heard, and participate in the way most comfortable and enjoyable for them. If you have any concerns about how your child might best be included in and enjoy this class, please don't hesitate to contact me!
