Limited time offer: Get your first month FREE by entering CODERCHEMTALK10 at checkout! Offer valid until June 14. Chemistry is more than just a science class you might take in middle school or high school- chemistry is part of everything you do in life. If you love chemistry or are just curious to learn more about it, this is the perfect group for you! Each week, I'll be making a post where you get to watch a short video or read a short article about something related to chemistry and then posts asking questions and discussing what you've learned and any questions that you have. There will also be opportunities for learners to share cool things that you've done or read, build models of molecules, and participate in hands-on science challenges. There will also be monthly element scavenger hunts where you'll look for examples of elements in your everyday life and share the examples with the group. As moderator, I will encourage students to interact and participate, provide weekly posts and challenges, and answer questions or provide additional resources for students. I envision this group as being a fun and supportive place for students to get to talk to others who love chemistry AND to be able to ask questions about chemistry that they've always wanted to know. If you love chemistry, you'll love being a part of this community!
学習到達目標
Students will learn about various topics in chemistry and how it connects to their everyday life.

Hi! I'm Julie and I'll be your guide as we navigate the amazing world of Chemistry! In addition to my time teaching on Outschool, I have over two decades of experience teaching and tutoring chemistry at various levels, and I'm excited to be able to share my knowledge and passion with a wider audience.
I have a BS in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Pennsylvania Chemistry Grades 7-12 teaching certificate and graduate coursework in Chemistry and Science Education from Penn State University. I have over 20 years of chemistry teaching and tutoring experience including private tutoring, teaching high school Chemistry and AP Chemistry for 7 years, and teaching college freshman chemistry recitation and lab sections for several semesters. I've also taught after school science programs, worked for summer science camps, and worked at a science museum developing science outreach activities.
When people find out I'm a chemistry teacher, I'm often met with "Oh man, I hated chemistry!" or "that was such a hard class!" or "I never would have passed chemistry if I didn't cheat!" (actual quote from a former boss!) That makes me so sad, because chemistry is something that I think everyone can (and should!) understand, at least on some level. I try to make the class easy to understand- by no means does that mean I'm watering down the content- but what that does mean is I'll use words and analogies to help atoms, reactions, and molecules make sense to you!
Many of my classes are focused on chemistry, but I do offer some classes on other topics that interest me- always tying back to chemistry!
My one-time classes are meant to be an introduction to a topic- they offer an overview of a subject and are packed with information. I often develop longer-term courses based on my one-time classes if I see that there's interest.
My hands-on science classes are full of activities with a brief (5-10 minute) talk about the science behind each experiment along with step-by-step demonstration of how to complete the activity. These classes are meant as an introduction to a topic to spark interest, and I often provide suggestions for how to extend the learning beyond the given activity.
While I am required to set an age level for my classes, please feel free to contact me to discuss enrollment if your student falls outside the age range but still wants to enroll. I can create another section geared towards their age-group or modify the course content to meet their needs. I warmly welcome gifted learners and neurodiverse learners to my classes!
**Please note that all live classes must have a minimum of 3 students unless I contact you to say otherwise. All classes that do not meet the minimum within 24 hours of the class will be canceled.**
