What elements are in my iPad? Why do leaves change color in the fall? What makes lemons taste sour? Where do the colors come from in paint? If any of these are questions that sound interesting to you, then you would probably enjoy being an element detective! 

Each week, we will start class by doing an introduction to that week's overall element theme or question. We'll discuss what students already know about the topic of the week before taking a deep dive into that week's topic.  At the end of class, each student will get to share what they thought was most interesting for the week as well as answer some questions to review what they've learned.

This is the perfect class for anyone who always wonders "why?" and "how?"

I'm always open to student suggestions for future class topics, so if you have a question that you think can be answered, you're always welcome to ask! 

Students are welcome to join the class at any point- we will cover a new topic each week and no prior knowledge is required- just a desire to learn more about the chemistry of the world around us! 

Students will get a handout each week as a review and extension of information we learned in class.
