In this class, students will learn about the six main animal kingdoms including: plants, animals, protista, fungi, and archaebacteria and eubacteria (formerly known as Monera). Each week, students will participate in a series of activities to engage their learning, while also promoting interaction in the classroom. Each week, students will view an instructional video that will be posted on Monday of that week. Students will then participate in daily discussion board posts, responding to questions posed by the teacher, and have weekly activities to do. Every Friday, students will complete a digital break out room through Breakoutedu.com using information from the week's lessons. At the end of the class, there will also be a Kahoot link provided for a quiz that will be available for review. Each week, students will go through the following for their lesson: Week 1: Bacteria (both Archaebacteria and Eubateria) -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will cover what makes a living things a living thing, and what makes bacteria unique to other living organisms, including single cell vs. muliticellular. Note Taker will be provided to be used with video. -Activity: Students will complete "What kind of Bacteria Am I?" where students classify the organism based off what type of bacteria it is, including shape (spherical, rod, spiral) and answer how bacteria is unique to other living organisms -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. Week 2: Protista -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will discuss what makes a protist unique to other living organisms including how they are unicelluar and what makes them different than bacteria. Euglena, Paramecium, Amoeba and movements will also be discussed in this course. Note Taker will be provided to be used with video. -Activity: Students will complete " What kind of Protist Am I?" worksheet to determine the classification based off of characteristics, as well as if the organism is a protist at all or a bacteria based on description. -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. Week 3: Plants -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will discuss what makes a plant unique and how a seed goes through its life cycle including the reproductive parts of the flower. Note Taker will be provided to be used with video. -Activity: Students will read about plants from around the world in SuperScience Magazine (log in will be provided). -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Week 4: Animals -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will discuss what makes an animal unique in the kingdoms, and what each animal kingdom is, including what makes them unique. -Activity: Students will complete "Name My Kingdom" to classify animals in the Animal Kingdom based off of their characteristics. -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. Week 5: Fungi -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will discuss what makes the fungi kingdom unique, yet why it is similar to the animal and plant kingdoms. -Activity: Students will complete "I am a Fungi, Aren't I" where students will answer questions about the Fungi Kingdom. -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. -Kahoot: Students will be provided a final review Kahoot to review concepts learned in class in preparation for the final quiz for mastery of concepts Links will be provided each week for the break out rooms and will be available for the week. In addition, Kahoot will be made available in the final week for review. Live sessions are available upon request if needed. There are no scheduled live meetings.

その他の情報
保護者へのお知らせ
In this class, the six animal kingdoms will be discussed including how they may reproduce. While nothing specific will be discussed regarding animal anatomy or mating rituals, it is important parents and guardians are aware that discussion will come up regarding male vs. female and words such a "Sexual" and "a-sexual" may arise due to the reproduction of organisms based on their kingdoms, including plants due to their ability to both produce pollen and accept pollen for fertilization. In regards to animals, it will be briefly discussed how animals are unique as they require a mate to reproduce, and then live vs. egg young will be discussed. Discussion will be very brief regarding this concept.
受講に必要なもの
Students will be provided hand-outs for notes to keep for their possession each week, along with printable resources for activities. Students will also need a pencil to complete activities.

I am a 5th grade teacher, and have taught middle school science for 8 years from 6-8th grade. I am licensed as a science teacher from 6-12 grade, including Biology, with a Masters in Science Education. I like making learning relate to real world experiences so students can connect to material easier than standard memorization. I review in a flow pattern that starts with basic information and expands into complex information to assist students with retention.
