Meeting 1:
Students will see the equivalence of parts of a whole (like ½), identify proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers, and find the largest and smallest fractions. We practice these concepts by playing a game. The learner rolls one die to take his/her turn.

Meeting 2:
In this lesson students learn to make fractions equal to the one shown. First they see a step-by-step demonstration explaining how to make equivalent fractions. This will show how to make 6 equivalent fractions from the same one. Students will then create 6 fractions from a different given fraction and check their work with the class presentation. Finally they will play a baseball game giving equivalent fractions for one that is given. They will receive points for giving correct fractions. Class ends with a maze in which the path is chosen by finding fractions equivalent to the one given.
Meeting 3:
This class starts with students learning that to multiply two fractions they simply need to multiply across. Next they learn what a reciprocal is and they practice finding the reciprocal of a fraction. Next students learn how to divide two fractions by multiplying by the reciprocal of that fraction. Next students practice dividing two fractions. Once these skills have been learned and practiced the students will play tic-tac-toe to continue practicing the multiplication and division of fractions. Each square on the board has two fractions. Students will either multiply them together or divide them depending on whether the box needs an "X" or an "O". Once the correct computation is completed the student will use annotation tools to mark the box. If a student is unable to annotate the teacher will mark the box for the student.
Meeting 4:
In this class learners will practice finding the least common denominator for two fractions. First they will watch the process on a PowerPoint presentation then solve for the lcm step by step. Next they will play a game which requires finding the least common denominator for a pair of fractions. The answering denominator converts to a letter using a given code so players will not only receive points but work toward completing words. The words will serve as a self evaluation for the learner as well as the observation of the teacher who awards the points. Students should have knowledge of times tables. There is no homework assigned. A certificate of completion will be available in the classroom after the class. The PowerPoint presentation with the step by step demonstration and the game will also be available.
Meeting 5:
The students will play tic-tac-toe to practicing the addition and subtraction of fractions. Each square on the board has two fractions. Students will either add them together or subtract them depending on whether the box needs an "X" or an "O". Once the correct computation is completed the student will use annotation tools to mark the box. If a student is unable to annotate the teacher will mark the box for the student.
Meeting 6:
First students will learn to change decimals into fractions. Learners will review and practice place value for tenths, hundredths, and thousandths and reading numbers with decimals using place value. Students will make both mixed numbers and improper fractions. Then students will practice turning decimals into fractions and reducing those fractions to lowest terms. Next students will work with fractions whose denominators are factors of 10, 100, or 1000 to make decimals by creating equivalent fractions. Then students will make decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator when the denominator is not a factor of 10, 100, or 1000. All of these skills are then practiced by playing a game using a single die. If the student does not have a die the teacher will roll for them. Each die roll will lead to a math problem where a decimal needs turned into a fraction, reducing fractions and forming both mixed numbers and improper fractions when appropriate, or a fraction is turned into a decimal where students may need to do two digit multiplication or long division when appropriate.

学習到達目標

I teach classes in many subjects. I am proficient in reading, grammar, and math. I also can teach science, history, social studies, and some Spanish.
I have a college degree in teaching and a permanent certificate. I have taught all subjects to fourth graders including everything involved in science fair participation. I then spent years working as a substitute teacher in all grades from TK through high school. I worked some long-term assignments in the high school teaching language arts, history, business education, job preparation, keyboarding, journalism, and credit recovery.
I believe education is most effective when it is remembered. I believe in creating projects with content and utilizing interactive journals. I have created games to help learn basic concepts in grammar and math. These will be listed as soon as possible! Education can be fun!!
When not working I like to crochet projects to be donated for use or as gifts to family members and I try to volunteer at a local center.
