All aboard! The Polar Express has arrived in the world of Minecraft. In this 5-day camp, students will read The Polar Express, create a script with a Minecraft theme, and build their own structures. Students will exercise their imagination and execute their ideas as they work together in Minecraft to add their own style to the classic story. On the final day of camp, students will act out the movie inside of Minecraft, where it will be recorded and sent out to students and their families to enjoy. Is a creeper the engineer? Are there snow golems in the North Pole? It is up to you to decide when retelling the story! For this class, only Minecraft Java Edition (not the Bedrock edition) for PC or Mac is supported. It is not compatible with iPads, tablets, phones, Chromebook, or game consoles. Students must purchase the Java Edition of Minecraft for their personal computers; tablets, Chromebook or consoles will not suffice. In addition to providing a fun experience students will learn how to: - Collaborate with other students to plot a story from beginning to end, creating a script based on the classic story using their own imaginations and Minecraft elements - Write a script as a group and edit it when necessary in Google Docs - Use story structure and add new elements to their version of the Polar Express - Design buildings and other locations needed for movie sets and learn to build them in Minecraft - Act out scenes from their movie - Develop negotiating skills when conflict arises in a group setting and engage in teamwork - Execute their creative ideas through building their own personalized Polar Express movie in Minecraft - Use technology to accomplish goals - Give instructions to others and accept feedback from teachers and peers alike Shortly after the end of the class, students will receive their movie and access their Minecraft map. They can be proud of all the hard work they put into making it. The teacher will wait up to 15 minutes for students to arrive. If students do not show up within that time and haven’t provided advance notice, the session will not be rescheduled.
