We're going to earn about 10 different bacterial diseases starting with The Black Death Plague and ending with Anthrax.  We will talk about how bacteria are transmitted, the disease they cause, how it's treated or prevented and some of the interesting history and science.  This class is meant as a broad survey so we'll spend three or four minutes on each bacteria.  We'll see some pictures of the bacteria and some of the infections and then we'll talk about some of the science. The lesson will involve a presentation from me, a slideshow, and a discussion with learners.  The diseases we'll cover are:
Black Death (Yersinia Pestis)
Typhoid (Salmonella enterica Typhi)
Diphtheria (Corynebacterium diphtheriae)
Whooping cough (Bordetella pertussis)
Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
Leprosy (Mycobacterium leprae)
MRSA (Staphylococcus aureus)
Tetanus (Clostridium Tetani)
Botulism (Clostridium botulinum)
Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis)

This is going to be a really fun class.  Bacteria are fascinating and exciting. They've shaped history civilization and guided our technology and they remain one of the most persistent threats to human health. Bacteria have been, and still are, are tools and weapons. They're also a testament to how far we've come as once fearsome agents have become nothing more than trivial nuisances.
