The Last Battle is the heart-wrenching final installment of the Chronicles of Narnia. In this four-week class, learners will participate in meaningful discussions and engaging activities as we read C. S. Lewis' classic novel. Book clubs are an excellent way to engage reluctant readers or help enthusiastic readers dig a little deeper. Students will need their own copy of the text to complete assigned readings before attending class and should have already read all the books in the series, as this class will inevitably include SPOILERS for anyone who has not read the previous books.

Whether your student is reading the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time or is an enthusiastic fan on their third re-read, this class will be full of fun for all. We will explore the text and it's themes through discussion and a variety of engaging critical thinking activities. Class will be conducted in a casual, book club style with plenty of time for discussion. 

The reading schedule will be as follows:

Lesson 1: chapters 1-4
Discussion and activities will focus on setting and a quick review of the previous books in the series. How is the set-up for this book different from the previous adventures in Narnia? Whose perspective are we following? What primary emotions are the characters feeling and how is that reflected in the writing style?

Lesson 2: chapters 5-8
Focus on character contrast and development: How has Tirian's character developed through the story? How is he the same/different from other Narnian kings we have known?

Lesson 3: chapters 9-12
Focus on plot and predictions: What are the most important events that have happened thus far and what do you think will happen in the last section?

Lesson 4: chapters 13-16 (finish book) 
Focus on themes developed through the story: Betrayal and renewal
