✨**Please Note: This is a self-paced course, allowing your learner to watch the videos, practice the skills, and play the games when it is convenient for you. There are no live meetings for this course, but I will be available with tips, tricks, and advice to help your learner succeed.** Mastering spelling can be challenging, even for strong readers. Our class offers explicit, systematic spelling instruction to help students succeed. Using 'Pop-its' or alternatives, we'll segment words, match sound/spelling combinations, and build essential spelling skills through engaging lessons. A weekly class video will include: 1. A "Super Important Question"--share your answer with the group via text or video 2. A Mini-lesson on the spelling rule or pattern (with game or activity provided for you to complete) 3. Practice with Phonemic awareness (usually segmentation, also work with syllables--often with game or activity) 4. Dictation of words (Following the pop, write, check method--learners will spell several words along with me on video in order to be able to check their own work). All content that learners post in response to games, activities, and questions will be responded to promptly--within 48 hours or (when posts come on the weekends) by the next working day. A word list will be provided each week for additional practice. This can be given as a "test" to submit with specific feedback provided, or simply for additional practice. I will respond as quickly as possible to questions--"for fun" posts sometimes take a bit longer. Week 1: Short Vowels (Plus help with b/d/p/q reversal) Week 2: C v. K Week 3: Consonant Digraphs Week 4: Blends Week 5: Open and Closed Syllable Week 6: -ck, -tch, Week 7: FLOSS rule Week 8: -ic endings Week 9: Y as a vowel Week 10: Soft C and G Week 11: Magic E Week 12: DGE

I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach through IMSE (30-hour) and the Reed Charitable Foundation Classroom Educator (30-hour course).
