IEW Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons: Semester 1 Syllabus Course Overview: From the Anglo-Saxons to the Renaissance, from chivalrous knights to Genghis Khan, students will improve their knowledge of medieval times while learning to write with structure and style using the IEW method. No previous IEW experience is necessary. Required Textbook: Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons Student Book Optional Literature Component: Students can choose to read eight novels that integrate with the historical topics used for writing assignments. These novels are optional and not required coursework. Class Structure: Weekly lessons on medieval history topics Introduction and practice of IEW writing techniques Vocabulary review using illustrated cards Optional literature readings to complement the historical topics Weekly homework assignments Weekly Syllabus: Week 1 - Lesson 1 Unit 1: The Middle Ages (Introduction to Structure and Style) Activities: Introduction to note-making, outlining, and vocabulary cards. Week 15 - Lesson 15 The Magic Lamp Activities: Writing from pictures, incorporating all learned techniques.
