🧪 🎨 Welcome to Kitchen Table Science!  Each week, we will explore science and art in a new way. These are a combination of art projects and science projects put together. 

👩‍🏫 In this class, I will guide the students as we do the science experiment together. I give opportunities for the learners to make their own hypotheses of how and why the experiment works. After they have made some guesses, I will guide them through the explanation. Learners are encouraged to do the experiments themselves. There will be time for questions and showing off the experiment as we go. 

🧽***Since this is for young learners and might be a bit messy, having a parent nearby is highly recommended. 

Some topics are subject to change, but all changes will be posted in a timely manner. 

🛒***The supply list below will be updated weekly to show the supplies needed for that week. I will also post it in the classroom on Sun or Mon. ***

APRIL: PAPER SCIENCE 
April 3 - BLOOMING FLOWER/COFFEE FILTER CHROMATOGRAPHY
April 10  - GROW A RAINBOW /MAGIC MESSAGES 
April 17 - BUILDING BRIDGES, STRONGEST TOWER
April 24 - PAPER MAGIC (MOBIUS STRIP, PAPERCLIP MAGIC)


MAY: SLIMES
May 1 - MARSHMALLOW SLIME
Edible Supplies:
-6-18 large marshmallows (you will need 6 per color)
-corn starch (we will be using this all month, so have a full container on hand)
-cooking oil -  (canola, olive, vegetable, coconut, etc - 1 Tablespoon per batch)
-food coloring

Other supplies:
-cookie sheet or tray
-microwave-safe bowl (one per color unless you want to mix colors)
-hot pads to remove it from the microwave (PARENT HELP)
-1 Teaspoon measuring spoon
-1 Tablespoon measuring spoon
-1 stirring spoon (I just used a regular spoon I eat cereal with)


May 8 - CLOUD DOUGH
For each ball of dough, you will need the following supplies:
- ¼ cup of any cheap lotion or conditioner (keep handy in case you need to add a tad more as it is mixed)
- ½ cup corn starch (keep handy in case you need to add a tad more as it is mixed)
- food coloring
- 2 small mixing bowls (I use cereal bowls)
- 2-3 spoons
- 1/4 cup measuring cup
- tray to contain the mess
- an airtight container for optional storage later

May 15 - JELLO SLIME
-1 Cup Cornstarch
-1  DRY Package Sugar-Free Jello (any brand/flavor gelatin)
(sugar-free does not stain as much as the sugary one, plus it mixes better)
-3/4 Cup Warm Water (as needed)
-Cookie Sheet or Tray (to keep table surface clean)
-Gloves in case it stains your hands

May 22 - TRADITIONAL SLIME (uses contact solution with boric acid)
- Contact Solution (needs to have BORIC ACID) - I like the Renu brand found on Amazon or at a local store (You can also use borax - Mix 1 teaspoon of Borax into ½ cup of warm water - you will not use it all)
- White or clear liquid Elmer's glue (4-8oz)
- Baking soda (1/2 tsp)
- Big bowl
- Mixing Spoon
- Measuring spoons (1 TBSP, 1/2 tsp)
- tray/cookie sheet (could get a little messy)
- Airtight container for slime storage later
- food coloring (optional)
- glitter (optional)

May 29 - FLUFFY SLIME (with shaving cream)
- same ingredients as the traditional slime plus...
- white foam shaving cream (not the gel)
