🧪 🎨 Welcome to Kitchen Table Science! Each week, we will explore science and art in a new way. These are a combination of art projects and science projects put together. 👩🏫 In this class, I will guide the students as we do the science experiment together. I give opportunities for the learners to make their own hypotheses of how and why the experiment works. After they have made some guesses, I will guide them through the explanation. Learners are encouraged to do the experiments themselves. There will be time for questions and showing off the experiment as we go. 🧽***Since this is for young learners and might be a bit messy, having a parent nearby is highly recommended. Some topics are subject to change, but all changes will be posted in a timely manner. 🛒***The supply list below will be updated weekly to show the supplies needed for that week. I will also post it in the classroom on Sun or Mon. *** September: WATER AND AIR SCIENCE Week of Sept 15 - Optical Illusions Week of Sept 22 - straw rockets/gliders Oct: Fizzling “NOT SO SPOOKY” Science: (this month uses mostly baking soda and vinegar with a few other things added) Week of Oct 6 - Fruit Volcanos/Hidden Colors Week of Oct 20 - Self-inflating Balloon Week of Oct 27 - Fizzy Salt Pictures NOV: FALL SCIENCE Week of Nov 11 -Magic Spices/Applesauce oobleck Week of Nov 17 - Homemade butter/milk toast (EDIBLE SCIENCE!) Week of Nov 24 - U.S. THANKSGIVING WEEK - NO CLASS DEC: Holiday Science: Week of Dec 1 - Crystal Candy Canes/Candy Cane Chemistry Week of Dec 8 - Bendy Candy Canes/marshmallow dough Week of Dec 15 - Gingerbread man chemistry (acid/base reactions) Week of Dec 22 - Candy Cane Fluffy Slime JANUARY: SNOW and ICE: Week of Jan 5 - Snowman with Fake Snow/Exploding snowman Week of Jan 12- Build and Melt a Marshmallow Snowman Week of Jan 19 - Paint with colored ice cubes Week of Jan 26 - Escape the Ice (freeze ice the night before - with a toy hidden inside) FEBRUARY: SPACE: Feb 6 - HOW PLANETS ORBIT THE SUN/ WHY MOON HAS CRATERS -Round cake pan/pie tin -Small marble/bouncy ball -Handful of playdough/clay -Flour (2-3 cups) -Brown powder (chocolate powder, hot chocolate mix, dry chocolate pudding mix, instant -coffee, etc) -Rocks of various sizes/shapes (yet small enough to fall into the pan) Feb 13 - RAINBOW GALAXY MILK -3-4 plates/bowls (we might do it a few times so bring a few bowls or plates - A muffin pan works well too as it has 6 circles) -Milk (whole milk is best, but any cow’s milk can do- I don't think this works with plant-based milk) -Liquid food coloring -Water -Q-tips (or cotton balls) -Dish soap in a small bowl (I like to use Dawn, but I think most will work) -Thick Paper - like cardstock or cut up index cards (cut small enough to fit in your plates/bowls of milk - about 2 inches square) Feb 20 - MARSHMALLOW CONSTELLATIONS/STARS ON CEILING -Printouts (both of them) -Mini marshmallows (about 20) -Toothpicks or uncooked spaghetti noodles - we may have to break some to make smaller lines -Flashlight (NOT LED if possible) -Scissors -Glue stick -Dark construction paper (black or brown would be best) -Pushpin, safety pin, straight pin (something to poke a small hole in the paper) -Parent help for cutting and poking Feb 27 - BUILD YOUR OWN SOLAR SYSTEM -White coffee filters (8-10) (make sure they can open flat into a circle) -Paper plates (8) -Washable markers (thick kind are the best) -Black Sharpie (or permanent marker) -Spray bottle filled with water -Scissors MARCH: DISCOVERING DENSITY Mar 6 - SINK OR FLOAT/BUILD A BOAT Mar 13 - BOTTLE DIVERS Mar 20 - RAINBOW IN A JAR Mar 27 - EGG DENSITY WITH SALT WATER/DENSITY MAGIC TRICK APRIL: COLORFUL WORLD April 3 - FIZZLING RAINBOW April 10 - WALKING WATER/COLORFUL CARNATIONS April 17 - SKITTLES RAINBOW/ PAINT WITH SKITTLES April 24 - GROW A RAINBOW /MAGIC MESSAGES EACH FUTURE MONTH WILL HAVE A SEPARATE THEME. KEEP CHECKING BACK FOR UPDATES.

Some of these experiments can be a little messy. It would be wise to have a parent nearby to help as needed.

I love looking around me and asking questions. "What if....?" Science is full of "what if" questions. Come explore simple science experiments with me. Most of the items can be found around your home or easily found at the store. I also have a love for math... especially math games. Join me as we make math fun! Many parents and learners appreciate the way I bring laughter to the classroom.
I have been an educator for 10 years: online ESL teacher for 5 years, and a Kindergarten teacher for 5 years before that. I have worked with children of all ages in various summer school and online activities. I have a Bachelor's in Music Education from Boise State University and a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Multnomah University. I live in Idaho, USA with my husband and my 2 young daughters (Ages 2 and 5). We enjoy reading books, getting a little messy, and taking walks together.
