Meet the Norse people, also known as Vikings. We'll learn about their lives as farmers, sailors, and explorers who lived between 790 and 1050 AD. Discover where Vikings lived in Scandinavia (present-day Denmark, Norway, and Sweden). Learn what life was like for these Norsemen.

First Raids: Learn about the Vikings' first known voyages to neighboring countries like France and Britain. We'll explore how these interactions unfolded, with some Vikings settling and others raiding. Please be advised that this class discusses the sensitive topic of war and death. I do not discuss the specifics of these topics, as the lessons are meant to be introductory for elementary students. I do encourage learners to consider the reasons for these conflicts and discuss whether those reasons are “fair”. I believe introducing world history broadly to elementary students prepares them for more in-depth study in middle school and beyond.
