This is a flex class - Each week class activities will be sent out for the student to complete on their own time. - There is not set date and time that you need to attend - There are no live classes, however, there will be plenty of interactions between the students and each other and myself. - These lessons have been tested in live classes to ensure student success - Art classes make the perfect flex classes as students can pause or speed up based on their abilities, the lessons can be done when it fits into the day without worry of getting behind as it's a high interest subject kids will want to work on every week. Are you looking to keep your student not only busy but thriving during their holiday break? Cheerful Christmas Art Camp gives your students 3 projects per week to work through, keeping them entertained all while helping them learn some fun new art skills. Plus, these projects become awesome annual décor as well as make great gifts. The lessons will use a variety of mediums, students are encouraged to explore them all and experiment with their uses. While I will not be using canvas or acrylic paints, students are welcome to do so. Each week a video instruction will walk the students step by step through the drawing of that week will be posted. Each week a new virtual scavenger hunt challenge or video response question will be posted within the theme of the week. Students are asked to upload either a photo or a video of their weekly work to the classroom and give at least one student critique each week. Gaining inspiration from each other, I suspect each week they'll take their creativity up a notch. Week 1: Christmas Dinosaur, Cheerful Gnome, Kitten in Wreath Week 2: Christmas Giraffe, Reindeer, Santa Bunny Week 3: Christmas Gorilla, Stained Glass Poinsettia, Ornament Kitty Week 4: Christmas Sloth, Whimsical Elf, Holiday Owls We are our own worst critics. My goal is to help us take our own art less seriously while also taking art in general more seriously. Students will learn that growth in a subject matter such as art comes from repetition and breaking larger more complex drawings into simple shapes. My goal is always to increase student’s confidence levels, help them see mistakes happen and can actually be good sometimes, and that art is a great relaxation activity. After just a few short weeks parents often notice a surprising increase in their student’s art confidence level. I recently had a 9 year old student say, "That is cool but looks hard! I wouldn't be surprised to find it easy though! All the art we have made so far has looked hard, but it was actually not hard and fun!" This is 100% my goal. I want to teach my students techniques and drawings that appear hard but are easy enough for them to find success. My passion and excitement about art comes out in my teaching. And I love seeing and hearing the kids get excited about their art. My classes are set up in a way that there are natural social interactions as we trace over our finished piece in black marker or as we work on coloring our masterpiece. I have found even shy or quiet students share in this no pressure environment. It is my hope that students will relate to each other through their art and realize that even though we are each unique, being different is ok, in fact being different is awesome! Students will learn to encourage each other through the struggles of the daily life while growing as individuals. They will learn to express their feelings through line and color as well as other art techniques depending on the week attended. For examples of the types of drawings we will be doing in this class please see the teacher profile where a link to my student’s art portfolio is provided. If you have a student who typically feels they “can’t draw” this is the perfect class for them. I have been working with students who do not see themselves as artists for the last 7 years and have had these same students who were forced to attend the class the first session, beg to continue on, many I’ve had in class for 4+ years. This is not a draw this in this exact way, which is what helps these students be successful. The goal for me is to have no students works of art be identical, I encourage them to change things up and follow their gut. Please Note: I recommend using the biggest screen you have possible as I teach using a combination of slides and live directed drawing so kids can see both the end goal and the process of getting there. About Me:
Art and Creativity are what get me through the day. The joy that creating provides is something that should be shared and explored by all!
Studio CIA provides Creativity, Imagination and Art Classes for School Aged Kids. I have a passion for keeping kids creative, happy and healthy through the arts. You will not find any paint this color here or make your picture look like this in our classes. Instead, I encourage and empower kids to use their own unique style and imagination to create their masterpiece. Kids thrive in this type of environment as all other school subjects and much of life is about doing things in just such a way, leaving little opportunity for self-connection or self-expression. At Studio CIA Kids embrace their inner artist through imaginative exploration.
I have been teaching in one aspect or another all my life, from helping in Sunday School classrooms as a teen to teaching my own classrooms at 18. I was a lead teacher for a Preschool prior to having my own family. Once I had children, I was organizing local families into craft clubs and field trips. It was only natural that we chose to homeschool. When I struggled to find a curriculum that would work well with my very hands-on son and my visual daughter, I set out to create my own. This curriculum is still on the market 18 years later and being used in homeschools and classrooms across the world.
I believe all learning styles can be taught in the same space in most cases and you will find that 99% of my classes are project based for that reason. Putting the learning into the hands of the students helps retention and instills a love of learning. I teach for enjoyment and want my students also enjoying the learning process, you will not find me teaching to a test or requesting memorization of facts. I will find fun and creative ways to get kids learning without them even realizing it most of them time. Some may call it arts and crafts, but I guarantee you your students will love it and they will learn and more importantly retain the information being taught.
With 20 years of experience teaching my own children at home I am well versed in a multitude of subjects and ages but my passions lie with the Preschool – Elementary age groups and in the arts and sciences and now i share that passion and creativity with anyone willing to listen.
I’ve been focused on teaching within the arts and life skills categories within my local homeschool community and am super excited to bring these classes to Outschool. I have seen so many students show growth and development in the 5-7 years they have been taking my class and can’t wait to share that with your students as well.
I have always felt that art was important. I did not always know how to put it into words necessarily, but I realized early on that it always left me in a better mood than when I started. With our current “social distance” orders, my views on the need for a creative outlet have gone from thinking they are important to knowing they are ESSENTIAL. We need to create our own happiness and when at all possible share that joy with others.
While we are all struggling to process our thoughts and fears, our kids are also struggling to put into words what they are feeling. ART CAN HELP. It can become a way to slowly work through thoughts and feelings. Sometimes a feeling is easier expressed in color or shape than in words. And art does not always have to be in the form of a painting or drawing, but a visual representation of what they’re learning. Check out my class listings to see how many different ways arts and crafts can really be learning.
