There are many characteristics that make a great leader but oftentimes students believe that to be a leader you have to be a certain age, work in a certain position, or be popular with everyone. In this live, interactive, 50 minute session, students will look at a list of leadership characteristics and determine which five are needed the most. The group will then "build" their perfect leader based on class discussion. After the group reaches a consensus, they will look at leaders from history and today so they can discuss if they have these characteristics or if other skills are needed. The class will end with students knowing that they can also be good leaders and tips to be a great leader at any age. Students will receive a workbook for the class and a recap of the class is posted after the session is finished. A certificate of completion is provided for each student who participates in the class and submits their final assessment. I have presented at leadership workshops for students for 18 years. This session is adapted from an in-person workshop I do that engages students in discussion and reflection. Students leave the workshop with a better understanding that they can be great leaders.
