週1時間. Homework is provided each week. It is not collected or graded, so is optional, though students are strongly recommended to complete the homework to check their understanding. Answers will be provided via an answer key, and students are encouraged to bring to class any problem with which they are struggling so we can review together.
修了証書
I will provide a certificate of completion upon request. For students who were not enrolled for the duration of the course, the certificate will reflect the units for which they were enrolled.

This course provides an opportunity for students to master Algebra 1 over a comprehensive 30-week period. This is perfect for homeschool students looking for a fun way to learn algebra, as well as extra practice for kids at other schools.

Each topic is covered over the course of a 3-classs week. I aim to stick mostly to the following structure each week, though it varies depending on student needs and content particularities. Homework is provided each week, though is completely optional. However, students who find they are having a hard time mastering the class content are strongly encouraged to do each week's homework.

Day 1: Boss Problem and Content Intro
Day 2: Content Practice and Extension
Day 3: Content Review and Boss Problem Revisted

Day 1: Boss Problem and Content Intro
Our weeks begin with a Boss Problem. The Boss Problem presents a challenging problem to the students *before* they learn the week's content. We take a little bit of time to ponder over it at the beginning of the week, but it's not expected that most students will be able to solve it until after we've covered the week's topic. It's like the final boss in a video game: if you can beat it, then you're ready to move on to the next level! After puzzling over the Boss Problem, I introduce the main concept or skill that will be studied this week, generally through one or more example problems.

Day 2: Content Practice and Extension
Practice, practice, practice! We take a day to work on really mastering the skills introduced on the previous day. We will do sample problems together as a class, and students will also have the opportunity to attempt problems on their own. I present various extensions on the initial topic, making sure students can apply the skills they've learned to a variety of problems. These might just be trickier or less familiar algebra problems, though are often word problems or real-world applications.

Day 3: Content Review and Boss Problem Revisted
This is our opportunity to wrap up the topic. We review the content introduced during the week and go over any questions or weak points the students have. For those that have done the optional homework, this is a great opportunity to go over any problems that they found challenging. Finally, we take on the Boss Problem. Students may have been able to solve it on their own by this point, and we will walk through it together to reach a solution, guided by the students! This adds a sense of accomplishment for the week and a nice mini-capstone to the topic.

The class content builds each week. The best way to take this course is from beginning of the course to the end, but students are welcome to join any time. Reach out to me if you are not sure whether your student is ready to join mid-year; I can provide a list of topics they should be familiar with up to any point and help you determine whether they are ready to jump in.

Friday is our make-up day. In the rare case that I must miss a class due to illness or personal emergency, we will have make-up classes on Friday at the same time as our usual class. If a student misses class, no make-up class will be offered, but the student is welcome to view the class recording, provided they have attended at least one live class.
