The Lightning Thief is the first book of the Percy Jackson Series. It's heavy in Greek mythology, so it's a mini history lesson also. It's a nice bonus that after reading the book you can extend the learning by watching the movie and doing compare and contrast exercise that doesn't even feel like work! I have used this novel for several years to cover Greek mythology and the Percy Jackson series. This is definitely something to consider for students younger that my suggested age requirement for class. Again, we will not be used those images or reference material, but if students research on their own, they may find images of semi or fully nude statues based on the Greek gods.
