This class will cover The Hobbit reading comprehension questions and full discussion. There will be games, slides, and video clips to keep learners engaged and having fun! While learners do not need to have any prior experience, it is expected that students can read and complete assignments during the week. This is a more advanced version of The Hobbit novel study, so it is best if your student enjoys a challenge. Vocabulary, reading outside of class, and additional activities will be required for this class. If this seems too much, no worries. I offer a standard curriculum for this novel which incorporates the US standards for 7-9th graders. While this class does offer a lot of material, the certificate will be focused on the required material for the class, which includes reading, writing, vocabulary development, figurative language, and grammar. Make no mistake, this is a challenging curriculum. Each chapter will have a vocabulary practice and quiz, reading comprehension discussions in class, figurative language practice, video clips to introduce the chapter as we read it together. Don't forget about adding creativity to the class! What's learning without a little fun and creativity? While these options are not required, they have proven to aid in contextualizing the information in a fun and creative way. Activity options include but are not limited to: poetry creative writing illustrations creating a song or rap constructing a model of a scene in the chapter or novel Week 1: Pre-reading activities Research the author WWI connections Learning Roman numerals Vocabulary for Chapter 1 Reading Chapter 1 End of chapter quiz (vocabulary and reading comprehension) Homework and reading assignments Chapter 2 & 3 vocabulary Previewing the reading comprehension questions Read Chapters 2 & 3 Quiz Week 2: Chapter 4, 5, & 6 vocabulary Previewing the reading comprehension questions Read Chapters 4, 5, & 6 Quiz Week 3: Chapter 7, 8, & 9 vocabulary Previewing the reading comprehension questions Read Chapters 7, 8, & 9 Quiz Week 4: Chapter 10,11,12, & 13 vocabulary Previewing the reading comprehension questions Read Chapters 10,11,12, & 13 Quiz Week 5: Chapter 14,15, & 16 vocabulary Previewing the reading comprehension questions Read Chapters 14,15, & 16 Quiz Week 6: Chapter 17,18, & 19 vocabulary Previewing the reading comprehension questions Read Chapters 17,18, & 19 Quiz Wow, that's a lot, but I promise it will be challenging and fun!

We will be watching scenes from the movie which may include battle scenes, smoke rings, and drinking. There are also drinking and smoking mentioned in scenes of the novel. Gollum is a scary creature with an evil temperament at times. The novel does include magic as part of the fantasy world. If this is uncomfortable for your family, it's a great opportunity to address your family's beliefs in regard to magic.

I will have the materials for each chapter available to be printed. This is a benefit, but it is not required. A copy of the novel is required.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in English with a minor in math. I am a certified teacher and have taught this novel for several years in public school. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the type of material that will be covered. While none of the discussions will revolve around drinking or smoking, we will have discussions connecting Goblins to WWI and mass graves from a historical perspective.レビュー
