This class is a novel study on A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. It is designed to promote critical reading, thinking, vocabulary, and writing for middle-grade students (5th-8th grades). Reading a series of books provides background knowledge into the behavior of the character and the structure of the text that enable the reader to understand and anticipate plot directions. Background knowledge is one of the most significant factors in comprehension. Research around reading tells us that series reading can help to enhance overall comprehension and fluency. When students are familiar with the background, characters and plot they can focus more on higher-level comprehension, inferencing and deduction skills.
