Welcome to Second Grade English Language Arts! In this fun and interactive English Language Arts class, students will work on second-grade writing, reading, and grammar skills through creative and engaging activities. Each week will focus on a different aspect of second-grade English Language Arts. 🔹Weekly Live Meetings: We will meet every week to learn together. 🔹Optional Homework: Students will be given optional homework each week. This homework will build on the class content and reinforce our learning. During the writing weeks, students will receive comprehensive instructions along with a creative writing component to inspire their imaginations. Our reading classes will be dedicated to reading, analyzing texts, and participating in discussions, with a reduced emphasis on writing during these weeks. We will teach grammar utilizing various engaging activities and practical examples. Let's learn and have fun together! 📖🎉 🌟Our Learning Plan:🌟 Week of September 12- Writing- We will learn about paragraphs and we will write a narrative paragraph. Week of September 19- Grammar - We will learn the parts of speech (nouns, verbs). Week of September 26- Poetry - We will read acrostic poems and write our own acrostic poems. Week of October 3- Reading - We will examine characters in a narrative text. Week of October 10- Writing- We will learn about descriptive words and write super sentences! Week of October 17- Writing- We will write poetry describing ourselves. Week of October 24- Reading- We will learn about an author's purpose when writing. Week of October 31- Paragraph Writing - We will learn about procedural writing and write a how-to paragraph. Week of November 7- Reading - Problems and Solutions. Week of November 14- Writing- We will learn about interviews. Week of November 21- Reading-We will learn about facts and opinions. Week of November 28- Reading: We will do a close read of a nonfiction text. Week of December 5- Paragraph Writing - We will learn about descriptive writing and write a descriptive paragraph. Week of December 12- Reading- We will compare and contrast. Week of December 19- Writing- Character creation. (Break until the week of January 9) Week of January 9- Letter Writing- We will write about 2024 and 2025. Week of January 16- Reading- We will sequence events. Week of January 23- Grammar- We will learn about punctuation (apostrophes). Week of January 29- Reading- We will learn about finding the main idea and details. Week of February 5- Reading- We will take a close look at a poem. Week of February 12- Writing- We will write an opinion paragraph. Week of February 19- Reading- We will do a close read of a mystery. Week of February 26- Poetry - We will learn about poetry and triangle triplets. Week of March 4- Reading- We will examine point of view. Week of March 11- Writing- We will describe a mystery object. Week of March 18- Poetry- We will write shape poetry. Week of March 25- We will write descriptive paragraphs. Week of April 2- We will examine a fictional short story. Week of April 8- Reading/Writing- We will look at folk tales and learn about antonyms. Week of April 15- Reading/Writing- We will look at folk tales (#2) and learn about quotation marks. Week of April 22- Writing- We will write opinion paragraphs. Week of April 29- Writing- Letter writing. Week of May 6- Reading- We will do a close read of a fiction text. Week of May 13- Writing- Narrative paragraph writing. Week of May 20- Reading - We will read a poem and learn about poetry. Week of May 27- Writing- We will write opinion paragraphs. Week of June 3- Grammar/Reading- We will learn about plurals and palindromes. Week of June 10- Writing- We will write descriptive paragraphs. Week of June 17- Reading- We will do a close read of a fiction text. You are welcome to join the class at any time, and each week stands independently without building on the previous one. We (usually) have a couple of minutes of optional off-topic sharing at the end of each class. This allows students to connect with each other and share things that are going on in their lives outside the classroom. 🌟This is an inclusive class and all learners are welcome. The reading level for this class is Reading A to Z Level K-P or 451L-650L. If you are not sure if this is a good fit for your learner, please reach out!
