This is an 8-week series. Class meets once every week. Students will learn to use the principles of anatomy to approach each stage of drawing an animal, from the initial structure to the parts of the body and shading of the finished work. Week 1Lesson 12D - Outlines & ShapesStudents will understand the fundamentals of basic anatomy structure by capturing the landmark structures of the animal body.Week 2Lesson 23D - Forms & StructuresStudents will use 3D shapes, identifying their axis lines and using them to fill the animal body. They will practice this concept using equine forms.Week 3Lesson 3Mammal Anatomy - Skull & Skeletal FramesStudents will explore how the cranial bone structures differ and influence the animal’s head shape. They will also delve into the skeletal makeup of the animal body, and how it influences the way animals pose and move. They will practice this concept using canine forms.Week 4Lesson 4Mammal Portrait - Muscles & TissuesStudents will add musculature to their drawing, understanding how the lay of soft tissues can influence their final portrait renderings. They will practice this concept using feline forms.Week 5Lesson 5Birds - Form & Structure StudyStudents will learn how to draw avian bodies. They will understand the fundamental elements of bird anatomy such as their skeletons, feet, beaks and wings.Week 6Lesson 6Reptiles - Form & Structure StudyStudents will learn how to draw reptilian bodies. Students will learn the principles of animal anatomy, including forms, gestures, skeletal, and muscle structures, to create realistic renditions of various animals. Through interactive sessions, they will gain confidence in their sketching abilities and understand the unique characteristics of quadruped bodies compared to avian and reptile bodies.
Teacher Allie May is a contemporary artist who loves to indulge in all mediums, but focuses most on drawing and painting. She is a graduate student in the BFA program at California State University Long Beach, and aims to pursue a career in teaching art. Her art influence began at a young age, but she considers herself “self-taught.” Allie is passionate about encouraging students to master the fundamental skills and technical aspects of creating, but also develop a style that is unique to each student. Her promise is to encourage a mindset where students are confident in themselves and their ability to create. Teacher Brittany is a professional artist and illustrator. She holds a BA in Arts with a concentration on Visual Technology. She also gained valuable industry experience as Technology Lead and Animation Instructor at art schools. She has worked as a freelance concept artist and illustrator in game design. She utilizes a background in comics, storyboarding and animation to bring creative concepts to life. With a strong background in traditional and digital painting, Brittany is currently teaching a wide variety of classes in various mediums to merge her love for illustration, painting and game development.

An E-Certificate of Completion with grades will be provided for learners who have completed all weeks of the class. For learners who miss more than 3 times during the course, no certificate will be offered.
