Learners will need to listen to the song from the Six: The Musical cast recording that we will be discussing before class starts. There will be some optional questions that students will be able to respond to in the classroom before the start of each session. We will use those questions as a springboard for our discussions and activities.Experiencia de clase
Students will learn about the history behind the musical Six. They will critically discuss the artistic choices of the creators of each song. Students will use the information they find and their own critical thinking skills to determine how effective the creators were in conveying their message. We will discuss the historical context behind the show as well as why it appeals to us today. The Flipgrid app will be used to record video responses to some questions. We'll also use Nearpod to interact, as well as the classroom. Each class will start with guiding questions and activities, using the classroom. Students will discuss their ideas in the live session as well as through messages in the classroom, where they will be encouraged to respond to each other. We will spend one live session discussing each song of the show and analyze it for context and meaning. There is no required experience needed, but I will provide additional informational links and guiding questions that learners will find helpful to look at so they are ready to discuss them with the other learners. Weekly Breakdown: Week 1: Introductions and overview of the first track of the recording. Historical background of the Tudor era and discussion about how the show's creators set the tone for the play and analyze artistic choices. Week 2: Discussion and analysis of track 2 and the historical background of Katharine of Aragon. We will discuss what the creators were intending to convey and how they did so (style of music, word choice, etc.) Week 3: Discussion and analysis of track 3 and the historical background of Anne Boleyn. What tools did the creators use to establish a meaning here? How successful were they? Week 4: Discussion and analysis of track 4 and the historical background of Jane Seymore. We will discuss the creators' intent and determine how successful they were in conveying their artistic intention. Week 5: Discussion and analysis of tracks 5 and 6 and the historical background of Anne of Cleves. How did the creators use the music and lyrics to give the audience a new perspective on her? Week 6: Discussion and analysis of track 7 and the historical background of Catherine Howard. History usually portrays her in one way. What artistic tools do the creators of this show use to change our thinking about her? Week 7: Discussion and analysis of track 8 and the historical background of Katharine Parr. In what ways did the show's creators use music style, lyrics, and modern language to help us see her differently? Week 8: Wrap up! We'll discuss the final track and analyze what meaning they intended the viewer to take away. What reasons did they have for using modern music to retell this story? Does it make you see these historic people differently? As a note, I am happy to teach to single learners and I do not cancel due to low enrollment.

I am a current art teacher and I am interested in how technology and art can be combined to create new artwork. I teach classes using traditional media like paint and colored pencil, but I've also taught young learners how to use clay, cameras, and computers to create an animation. We've also created artwork that lights up using a paper circuit and a class on robotics! I am also interested in theater, history, and science. I have been an art teacher for 15 years now, having completed a B.S. in art education and a Master of Arts in teaching with endorsements in art, middle school English, and science. I believe every student is capable and creative. I think that there's no limit to what a student can do once they are shown the basics and allowed to let their imagination run wild. I also support all kinds of learners and strive to make my classroom a safe place for everyone to create and feel comfortable sharing their creations with other learners. I am happy to teach classes with only one learner and don't cancel due to low enrollment.
