Estrategias de escritura en abundancia: ¡ficción, no ficción, persuasión y mucho más!

Calling all writers - struggling and thriving alike! Do you have a struggling writer who needs support with improving their structure? Or, is your writer thriving and would like an opportunity to continue perfecting their work? Well, this is the class for you! With 1:1 guidance and support from me, this course is designed for writers to learn about and practice various strategies to improve writing. 

The class structure will be similar each class. The learners and I will meet whole group and I will teach and model about the topic at hand. Learners will have the opportunity to practice the skill with me and ask any questions that they may have. Then, learners will go into their own breakout room and work on the assignment of the day (see below). When they are working independently, I will check in and confer with each student in order to support them as needed. I believe that through 1:1 attention, I am cultivating positive relationships and helping the learner on whatever specific need(s) they have.  At times, students may work together in partnerships to support teamwork.  At the end of class, we will always come back together and share out our progress. I do like to end my classes with a review game such as on platforms like Kahoot. *These lessons are groups by genre but do not build on one another so students can join at any time!*

Whenever I teach, I work to ensure that my lessons are engaging, clear, concise, thorough and fun! I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable with a teacher and are enjoying themselves.  

I will be teaching with the expectation that students have experience with developing sentences.

Mon Feb 6, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: using our senses to add detail and description.
Mon Feb 13, 2023 - Editing and revising strategies. 
Mon Feb 20, 2023 - Introduction to non-fiction, brainstorming topic ideas, and research collection strategies.
Mon Feb 27, 2023 - Strategies to draft engaging beginnings with interesting hooks/leads (specific to the non-fiction genre).
Mon Mar 6, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: all about non-fiction text features and including them in our writing.
Mon Mar 13, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: using bold words, content specific words, and definitions.
Mon Mar 20, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: using stories, facts, and transitional words.
Mon Mar 27, 2023 - Editing and revising strategies. 
Mon Apr 3, 2023 - Introduction to persuasive writing, brainstorming topic ideas, and developing essay structure.
Mon Apr 10, 2023 - Strategies to draft engaging beginnings with interesting hooks/leads (specific to the persuasive writing genre).
Mon Apr 17, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: writing strong topic and concluding sentences.
Mon Apr 24, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: using transition words properly.
Mon May 1, 2023 - Strategies to improve writing: elevating word choice to make our writing more compelling. 
Mon May 8, 2023 - Editing and revising strategies.
