Grado de EE. UU. 7 - 10
Nivel Beginner - Advanced
This class will immerse young students into a Socratic Seminar style class, where they will be able to engage in thoughtful discussion, explore ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of the complexity behind political ideas.

We will watch a short video from Crash Course on YouTube that will (in an unbiased way) explain what is at the heart of conservatism and liberalism, which is liberty and equality, respectively. Through these lenses, we will evaluate and reflect on ideas such as education, coronavirus (and the recent protests), same-sex marriage, gun control, abortion, taxes, affirmative action, physician-assisted suicide, religion, healthcare, the death penalty, global warming, immigration, welfare, etc. The students select which topics they are most interested in, and we have a mature discussion on how their chosen topics relate to liberty and equality. Students should come to class ready to think, ask and answer the tough questions, and make new friends!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of the concepts of liberalism and conservatism as philosophies. Students will engage their higher-order thinking skills by assessing, evaluating, synthesizing, and analyzing information.

We will also be watching a short unbiased video on political ideology via Crash Course on YouTube. If you would like to preview this video, I will be happy to send it to you.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have a degree in political science with a minor in history. Throughout my travels around the world and the United States, I've seen misconceptions and a lack of understanding around this very important topic. There are many people who want to talk about politics, but there are not many who can do so without injecting their own personal opinions. I'm excited to offer this information, free from opinion, in a way that promotes higher-order thinking skills.
