Welcome! I'm very excited to offer this comprehensive camp that studies different philosophers and different styles of philosophies. Philosophy is a wonderful way for young learners to start thinking about ideas differently, to help them understand how to ask questions, and to sharpen their critical eye. In this four week camp, learners will first discover the basics of philosophy including logical fallacies and basic philosophical principles. Starting on Day 2, students will have required reading before every class. These readings will be a sample of a writing by the philosopher we are studying that day, and the reading will facilitate the lesson, discussion, and understanding. Day 1 - Logical Fallacies Day 2 - Socrates Day 3 - Aristotle Day 4 - John Rawls Day 5 - Niccolo Machiavelli Day 6 - Plato Day 6 - Confucious Day 7 - Diogenes Day 8 - René Descartes Each class will begin with a discussion on the reading, and an examination of the ideas behind what the philosopher meant. We will think and discuss about what the ideas would look like in the real world as tangible examples. The class will take a moment to briefly learn about the particular philosopher of the day and their life, works, and impact on history. We will conclude class with an exploratory discussion posing questions and ideas to each other regarding this philosopher, the merits of their ideas, criticisms, and how to expand on what they've written.

Orientación para padres
There are sometimes controversial subjects that come up in the course of class discussions. These conversations will be mature and unbiased, and also without judgment for any point of view for the students. All students understand from the beginning of my classes that it is a safe place for everyone, and that there are productive ways to disagree with others.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
The subject of philosophy is one that can be studied in conjunction with many other topics. I have formal education in philosophy, political philosophy, ideas and methods, ethics, and all of the selected philosophers for this course. I have experience teaching from a philosophical perspective, and using strategies to encourage higher order thinking skills to learners in multiple age groups.
