In this class we will read through the book "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" by Suzanne Collins. This is a prequel to the Hunger Games series.  This class is open to students who have never read the book and students who may have read the book previously but would like to re-read it in a book club setting. Students should have previously read the other books in the Hunger Games series, as we will be comparing things that happen in this prequel to the things that happen in the other books. Students will complete the reading ahead of time and then we will meet together to discuss the book. Through our class discussions we will work on:

 -comprehension skills
-analyzing the characters and their actions
-making connections
-discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book
-comparing and contrasting different characters and events

The teacher will use discussion questions to guide student conversations and discussions. Students are encouraged to jot down any questions or thoughts they have while reading to share with the class. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings from the readings each session.

We will meet twice a week for three weeks. "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is divided into three sections and we will read one section each week. This will end up being 4-6 chapters between each class period.

Please have the first 4 chapters read before the first class meeting.
