In this learner-directed class, we will meet each week to play and learn about chess together. This class listing is specifically designed to keep group sizes small and allow for direct coaching during games. Each class will begin with a mini-lesson on a fundamental chess skill, opening, or strategy based on play patterns observed during games played by the learners in that class. Then learners will play pairs assigned by the coach based on level of experience. During each game, the coach will be looking on to ask questions and provide advice to help players slow down, strategize, and improve their chess. However, the overall focus remains on having fun and enjoying the game! So the instruction is given in a fun, friendly manner to keep class "Stress-Free".

Malikai Bass is a twice exceptional (profoundly gifted/ autistic adhder with dyspraxia/dysgrpahia) life-long learner who has been teaching twice-exceptional students virtually for the past four years working with over a thousand students in classrooms that center, celebrate, and affirm neurodiversity. I love helping students succeed and find the ways their brain works to thrive in all subjects and highlight the ways we can use gaming to practice and expand our executive functioning, life, and real social skills.
Hello, I have thirteen years of experience in education. As an eclectic academic learner, I had lots of opportunities to benefit others with my unique understanding and gifted perspective as a twice exceptional learner. I hold a master’s degree in Museology with an emphasis on accessibility and STEM learning in museums. In my undergraduate education, I cast a wide net majoring in human services and education, completing an honor’s endorsement in English, and minoring in Human Development, Educational Foundations and Leadership, and American Sign Language.
My goal is to provide the kind of education that allows all neurodivergent learners to harness their full potential and access a wide breadth of pathways for the future as I have seen the benefits of this personally as an Autistic adult with ADHD and other disabilities. I have personal experience using an AAC device and with PDA so I am excited to welcome those learners to my classrooms to see how online education can reduce barriers. I work to incorporate natural opportunities to develop executive functioning and social-emotional-learning skills to support students in future success.
I am a Project-Wild certified educator. I have completed the Leadership in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities internship through Vanderbilt University and was selected as a Partner in Policy by the state of Tennessee for developmental disabilities. I began my first private education business in 2010 at the age of 14. Since then, I’ve tutored and taught in a variety of settings including homes, public schools, private specialist schools, and online. I’ve also worked and been trained by companies like TRIO and Varsity Tutors. I have received over 1000 five-star reviews on various online education platforms.
I grew up in non-traditional forms of education like unschooling. So, I work hard to make sure my classes are flexible and adaptable to fit into families existing education philosophies and goals. I also want to support homeschooling families by providing a rigorous curriculum aligned to the highest standards to unlock opportunities for their learners.
I advocate for a balanced education model that supports children as experts on themselves, their needs, and developing leaders while providing exposure to a wide range of subjects and interests. I love to reinforce drawing as a way to explore and express what we know in math and science and connect literature to all learning. I design my curriculum to support gestalt language processors and scaffold executive functioning skills. I believe all learners benefit from being in mixed-age and ability settings that allow them to be exposed to new ideas, cultures, and ways of learning.
