This course will cover the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World using a combination of discussion, lecture, first-hand accounts, and archeological evidence to document the location and importance of these seven places in the ancient world. We will look at each wonder individually using surviving first-hand accounts and archeological remains to investigate the location and its importance to the world individually, who created it, and why. Using a timeline we will compare the existence of these locations and which we would like to visit, to rebuild, and the influence and impact these places have had on our world today. This famous list has influenced thousands of years of history, but why did it have such a lasting influence? Students will learn about: the Great Pyramid of Giza Colossus of Rhodes Hanging Gardens of Babylon Lighthouse of Alexandria Mausoleum at Halicarnassus Statue of Zeus at Olympia Temple of Artemis

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
This course is part of one of my first lectures in my introductory art history courses. By beginning with the list of Ancient Wonders we can address multiple cultures that are interacting with each other, the spreading of ideas, the survival, and longevity of structures and this covers many of the cultural groups our course looks at over the semester. By considering the locations individually and then looking at where we overlap students can pick out their own interest be it in things they are familiar with (Pyramids) or that they have never heard of (Colossus of Rhodes).
