Over the next six classes, students will learn about the Seven Wonders of the World: ancient, medieval, natural, new, and modern. Our final week will consider the 8th wonder or wonders of the world.

Many people are familiar with the ancient list of seven wonders which includes the Great Pyramids but there is so much more. Over the last thirty years, more lists have been created to encompass a global view. There are the New Seven Wonders that go beyond the Ancient Mediterranean covering the globe from prehistory to modern. The Seven Modern Wonders featuring designs that were engineering marvels at the time of their creation from the late 1800s to present. The Seven Medieval Wonders were famous in the Medieval era, roughly 200BC to 1400CE, as sights of pilgrimage. Even the Seven Natural Wonders are amazing places man had nothing to do with. Each class will cover a different one of these lists. We will use a combination of lecture and discussion to consider these places, why they are important, and if something else should be included on the list instead.

Class 1- Ancient Wonders
Class 2- Medieval Wonders
Class 3- New Wonders
Class 4- Natural Wonders
Class 5- Modern Wonders
Class 6- 8th Wonder or Americas.

The final class is a choice.
In the Americas course students learn about some of the America's greatest places. Students will then work together to decide which are the best and should be the Seven Wonders of the Americas.
In the 8th Wonder students take their knowledge from our previous courses and learn about some of the places that just missed theses lists. We discuss and try to determine if there is an 8th wonder that could fit on all of theses lists.

I offer each of these classes individually if students are only interested in one course.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about thirty-two different locations around the world their importance to the culture that built them and their importance to our world today. We will consider other places that should be on each list and determine an 8th wonder that could be added.

This course looks at locations at marvels over the course of human history. I used portions of these lectures in my college art history and art appreciation courses. In art history I (Prehistoric to Medieval) we begin with the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World introducing students to the amazing art to come. The Seven wonders of the Medieval world is the first lecture of art history II (Medieval to 1900) as we look at each of these structures in more detail through the course. I open art history III (1900 to present) with the new seven wonders list allowing students a refresher of everything that came before and is influencing this modern time.
