Welcome to the Reading with Purpose book club! In this book club, we will meet ten times over the semester to discuss our books. We will read a book every two weeks, and students will respond with a written reading response and be ready to discuss the books with peers. Students will share their thoughts during our discussion and through weekly reading responses. One reading response is due for every book, and students will have clear instructions and a rubric to help them with this process. Students will choose their reading response from a list I provide to take ownership of the process. The class structure is as follows: Week 1 - Students will read The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 2 - Students will read Most Dangerous by Steve Sheinkin, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 3 - Students will read Girl of the Southern Sea by Michelle Kadarusman, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 4 - Students will read The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co) by Jonathan Stroud, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 5 - Students will read The Martian: Classroom Edition: A Novel by Andy Weir, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 6 - Students will read The Red Palace by June Hur, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 7 - Students will read Nyxia by Scott Reintgen, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 8 - Students will read I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 9 -Students will read And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Meeting 10 - Students will read The Institute by Stephen King, write a reading response, and come to class ready to discuss. Please note, that we need five students to run this book club. Please consider sharing the listing after you enroll your student. Thank you!

I have been running book clubs in person and online for over 10 years. I have experience working with students ages 8 and up and approach all topics in an age-appropriate way. If students need to be redirected, I will do that. I always listen to students and their opinions making them feel heard and appreciated for their thoughts.
