The Beatryce Prophecy by Kate DiCamillo is a great story about the power of friendship, hope, love, and the power of words.

Set in Medieval Times, a young girl mysteriously arrives at the monastery of the Order of the Chronicles of Sorrowing and is discovered by Brother Edik. Brother Edik is surprised to find the young girl cuddled next to Answelica, the goat who torments the Monks. As Brother Edik helps the young girl regain her strength, he soon discovers that she is no ordinary girl. She may be the one written about in prophecy and the one the king is after. This mysterious and exciting story will quickly draw your child in and be one they won't want to put down.

During our sessions, I will help learners dive a little deeper into our story by leading them through discussions and activities related to the chapters read. Learners will also have the opportunity to share their responses to the assigned activities.

Learners will be asked to read about 10 chapters (about 45 pages...the chapters are short page-turners!) before each class and complete the assigned activity that will be posted in the classroom after our first meeting.

This book club is a great opportunity for your child to sharpen their reading comprehension skills, gain insight from others’ perspectives, and have a fun time reading an unforgettable story.

Orientación para padres
This story does deal with some sadness, grief, and unkindness. The Beatryce Prophecy is set in the Medieval times beset by war and violence and several of the characters come to the story through violence. The scenes described are dark at times but not overly graphic. Jack Dory's parents are both killed. As a child, Jack staggers out of the woods and tells a stranger about a man (with a knife held between his teeth) who threatened his family. Jack’s mom sends Jack running for help and he hears her cry out in pain as he runs away. A dying man asks Beatryce to write down his confession of wrong-doing. Beatryce realizes that he is the man who killed her brothers and left her wounded and hiding beneath their bodies. (The scene she tells isn’t graphic.) Jack Dory eventually ends up with the man’s sharp sword and learns how to use it. (But never hurts anyone with it.) What appears to be an angel of death (given its flapping black feathers and its foul odor) visits a dying man.

Kate DiCamillo is one of my favorite authors. When I taught in the classroom, I always used Kate DiCamillo’s books to read aloud to my students because she does a great job of helping readers to learn important life lessons and think deeply. I also have a Masters in Reading, and it is my goal to help your child think deeper about the texts that they read. It would be my pleasure to share this amazing reading adventure with your child.
