Los piratas no cambian pañales: comprensión lectora, oral y auditiva

“Ahoy, me lads and lassies!  Ye won’t believe the tale Capt’n Metcalf has to tell ye!”  This class is specifically designed to incorporate listening, comprehension, and fluency skills/concepts with the delightfully fun book, “Pirates Don’t Change Diapers” by Melinda Long.  Students will read or listen to the teacher read the story and follow the specific auditory directions given throughout.  They will have speaking opportunities as they are asked to repeat phrases, answer comprehension questions, and follow directions to complete a writing task based on their level (younger children will be asked to draw a picture to answer the writing prompt).  The goal of the class is to build listening, vocabulary, speaking, and writing fluency.

It is important for children to be able to follow instructions, not only to keep them safe, but so that they can function effectively across different environments (home, school, the grocery store, etc.).  Being able to follow directions requires specific vocabulary development, attention to the task, and receptive/expressive language skills, all of which we will explore in this class.   Students will review preschool concepts and directional vocabulary in the context of this engaging story!

Of course, wear your best pirate outfit to class!  Capt’n Metcalf can’t wait to meet ye!

(NOTE:  Young children learn vocabulary, sequencing, and prediction skills through repetition of stories.  If you feel your child would benefit from hearing the story again, I would love to have them join me in additional sections of the class!)
