Students will practice naming the 5 senses. Next they will work in collaboration to compile a list of questions to ask themselves before describing something. For example, when discussing "sight", students might ask themselves: What color is it? What size is it? Does it look old or new? Next, we will have a brief discussion about adjectives. Students should already be familiar with the term "noun", but this is not required. The students will then brainstorm lists of adjectives that can answer the questions they previously formulated. For example, "What adjectives might answer the question, 'What size is it?'" (large, miniature, gigantic, medium, enormous, tiny). Throughout the class, I will use adjectives to describe items in the mystery box. Students will work together to guess what is inside. Students may bring their own "mystery box" item to class if they would like to play the role of the teacher-- just be sure to hide your mystery item off camera so we can't see when we're guessing! **Enroll every week for new mystery box items!**
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their writing skills by learning how to describe things in detail. Students will improve their problem solving, deductive reasoning, and collaborative skills.

Texas Certificado de Docencia en Artes del lenguaje inglés
Hello, parents!
My name is Christina Broadway, and I am so excited to meet your student! My older kids and young adults usually call me Ms. Broadway or "Ms. B." To the littles I'm typically known as "Ms. Christina."
I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in English, and I'm working to earn Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Over the past 15 years, I have taught preschool, middle school, and high school children. I have taught online for almost 3 years. To say teaching is my calling is an understatement; I am a teacher at heart and it colors every aspect of my life.
My husband and I live on the Texas coast and love to fish, play board games, and travel.
My love for teaching began with English and Language Arts. Ironically, when I was in grade school, I found English to be very boring and rigid; however, when I got to college, I took some English courses that opened my eyes to how fun language and literature can be! I realized that while literacy and language art skills are important for social, academic, and vocational purposes, they can also be an avenue for creativity and artistic expression. I strive to make my classes both challenging and fun. Most of all, I always try to teach literature and grammar in a way that will be useful and meaningful to my students throughout their lives.
Finally, I am an artist. I am a self-taught baker, sculptor, and painter. (I have even painted some classic works of art ON CAKE!) I believe art is a valuable tool for cultivating self-expression, analytical skills, and emotional health. Children who participate in art and music programs are statistically more likely to perform better in their core subjects. As a result, I love connecting with students through art. I strive to make my art classes accessible for learners of all skill levels and abilities. I am truly amazed by what children are capable of when we give them the guidance and opportunity.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me. I hope to see you soon!
