Develop your problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills through a comprehensive research method approach. This class will guide you in mastering the art of inquiry, teaching you how to identify, analyze, and address complex challenges with precision and creativity. You'll learn to think critically, evaluate evidence, and develop well-supported arguments, all while engaging in solving real-world problems that reinforce these essential skills. Students will work with an experienced scientific researcher and peers to solve an issue while learning innovative research frameworks, critical thinking skills, and systematic problem-solving approaches that they typically need in order to excel in STEM related subjects. 🙂🔍Research Topics Starting from August : Week of 8/5 : Can plants rock out? 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: Here is the breakdown of class: 🕛 Introducing a Problem-Solving Topic Each week, we will delve into a new anchoring phenomenon—ranging from climate change to the spread of diseases. Students will work on framing and identifying appropriate research questions and formulate testable hypotheses, which are essential for conducting meaningful problem-solving processes. 🕛 Designing the Research Plan Based on the research question and hypothesis, students will work with the scientist and fellow learners to identify an appropriate research methodology and develop a research plan that is able to effectively investigate the issue. We will enhance critical thinking by addressing some of the key considerations in research. e.g. What underlying factors contribute to the observed phenomena? What are the limitations in our research plan? How can we overcome potential obstacles? What distinguishes a control group from an experimental group? What is a confounder? By the end of the course, students will have a solid grasp of scientific inquiry and how to apply it to real-world issues. They will be adept at designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and making logical inferences. This course will equip students with the tools to investigate complex scientific questions and prepare them for advanced STEM courses and beyond. 📌Class Format: - This is an interactive class where students will work with their peers and the instructor to also enhance their social and communication skills. - Each week a new topic will be introduced. Students will delve into different types of scientific research methods and put what we've learned into practice. This approach prepares students for advanced studies in STEM fields. - These classes are structured so that student can join at any time, as each session stands alone. 📌Teaching & Learning Style - I encourage students to ask lots of questions! As a scientist, I am happy to answer and share stories from my research career. - I break down complex concepts into simple, understandable terms, making it easier for students to grasp and apply them. - I understand every student learns differently, so please reach out if there's anything I can do to enhance your child’s learning experience.
