Repeating a story across several classes will also promote and strengthen reading skills such as recall, and help out any students who may join the class after the book has been started. The structure of the class will remain the same across each week. Please see below for a sample schedule as well as well as topics being taught! =) → Class Books will be listed in the classroom prior to the beginning of the first week of each month. → A reminder will also be sent prior to the week 4 drawing activities. 🍎 Week 1: Introduce the new book and make a prediction. Identify if the book is fiction/nonfiction. Read the book and ask comprehension questions. 🍎 Weeks 2-3: Practice a Literacy Skill (see sample list below) 🍎 Week 4: Book closure and drawing activity Sample Literacy Skills Practiced During Reading: (weeks 2-3) 🌟 Identify Story Elements: Characters, Setting, Problem Solution 🌟 Sequencing 🌟 Identifying Fiction/NonFiction 🌟 Parts of a Book 🌟 Making a Prediction 🌟 Making an Inference 🌟 Identifying Relevant (Important) Details 🌟 Making Connections (personal/text to text) 🌟 Retell 🌟 Opinions/Informational Facts 🌟 Compare/Contrast 🌟 Active Listening 🌟 Fiction/Non Fiction Elements 🌟 Asking & Answering Questions Using Picture and Text Clues These skills will create a strong foundation students will need in early reading. We can't wait for your love of reading soar along with us! :) Students have the option to stay in this class once, or to stay with me on a weekly basis! *Please note: If a student joins in after a feature story has been started that is OK! Stories will be reread several times to make sure everyone feels included and is ready/able to participate successfully!*

I believe that students thrive when they feel the most comfortable, and by transforming learning into fun activities, it allows students to gain a better understanding on a topic whether they realize it or not! It gives me such pride at the end of each school year when they can showcase their learning talents to their parents!
